The best part about having a sister as a professional photographer is how long it takes to get the edits back...
I took a big trip over to Robert's Creek, and my camera came along, of course. I snapped fifty bazillionty photos of their real life over on the Sunshine Coast! We even got a formal(ish) family photoshoot in at the very end! My sister would constantly hassle me about finishing the photos, which I finally did. And when I hit "export," I WEPT TEARS OF JOY! Not because of the many hours I spent post-processing, but because this collection of images are some of my favourites, ever - of some of my most favorite little & big people! I can honestly say that my sister is my best friend in the whole wide world!
It's also neat that I grew up with my brother in law - we got into all sorts of shenanigans together in high school! We go way back, and when he asked my sister to marry him, I could not have been more thrilled! You will have to ask her the story of his proposal...it's so Nick! And so adorable.
As well, my sister found out she was pregnant with her first...when she took a pregnancy test IN MY HOUSE and then proceeded to NOT EVEN TELL ME until a few days later. I'll still never get over that, but I still love you, sister!
Fast forward to their eldest being almost 6 years old. HOW does this even happen? I remember when she finally told me about the pregnancy, I did a little dance and jumped up and down, of course. It was a long wait for me, (I'm sure it was just a breeze on her to be carrying that fiesty little bowling ball around inside for 9 months) but when the day finally came for me to meet my first-ever niece, everything changed.
On my way down to Lion's Gate Hospital, where she would be giving birth via elective cesarean (read about it here), I was almost there. 2 more streets! And then, a red light...UGH. That red light just caused me to BURST into tears, I was SO anxious, and SO excited, I just couldn't possibly wait one more second! But, I didn't have a choice. My heart was going a mile a minute, with anxiousness, and with love that I didn't even know was possible, yet.
After arriving at Lion's Gate Hospital and getting parked and all that fun stuff, I went up to the recovery room, where Midwife Lydia from Root's Community Midwives met me and said "are you ready to meet your niece!?"
I was SO ready! But I was not so ready for the feeling of exploding love everywhere.
The feeling of meeting your first niece is unfathomable. Lucky for me, I have like, soooo many nieces now! I also have a nephew and one more on the way. All of these little people! They are for another entry, soon ;)
In any case, I COULD NOT FUCKING WAIT to show this gallery to my sister + the sweet fam! There are so many hilarious, heart-warming moments here. My absolute FAVORITE thing about documentary & lifestyle photography is that it is so raw & real. The real shit, the funny shit, the messy shit. Sometimes, there is actual shit! And that is okay, because that is real life, and that is what we live for
